I would like to offer my warmest welcome to the University of Ottawa's Civil Law Section.

grammond_doyen.jpgFor more than fifty years, the Civil Law Section has trained versatile law professionals who pursue different careers as lawyers, notaries, politicians, journalists, business leaders, professors as well as advocates for national and international organizations.

Legal training from the Civil Law Section will prepare you to face the challenges of a constantly changing legal profession.  First and foremost, the undergraduate degree in Civil Law will equip you with the knowledge and the skills required by the Barreau du Québec and the Chambre des notaries du Québec.  Following this degree, you will also have the unique opportunity to take advantage of an additional one-year of studies in Common Law (the National Program) at the University of Ottawa which will allow you admission to the provincial or territorial bar of your choice in Canada.

The Civil Law Section also offers different programs to complement the training of Common Law lawyers in Civil Law in both French and English.  In addition, we have established a co-op program that allows students to acquire work-experience through two compensated internships.  We also offer different joint programs to respond to a variety of needs; this includes joint training in law and business (LL.L/M.B.A), and another in law and international development and globalization (LL.L. and a Bachelor specialization in international development and globalization).

The aim of the Civil Law Section is to create and disseminate a broad base of knowledge in Civil Law in all of its dimensions; in addition, we also want to prepare students for leadership roles in Canada and abroad.  With these goals in mind, we offer several international exchanges, internships, a part-time certificate program, clinical programs, and moot trial competition all in a welcoming and enriching environment that favours individual intellectual growth.  The Civil Law Section also puts great emphasis on research that is crucial to the furthering and deepening of legal knowledge in Canada as well as other countries.  Our professional expertise has been well-utilized in many countries, and continues to promote legal education around the world.

I invite you to look at our French website to gain an in-depth insight into the courses, professors, and services offered.  Come and visit our faculty or feel free to contact us with your questions.  The fascinating world of study and legal research awaits you here, at the Civil Law Section of the Faculty of Law at the University of Ottawa.
